  • the idea behind tamping is to make sure that you are making this flat, compact bed for the water to hit
  • mistakes:
    • people are taking bathroom scales and putting them up on the table, and there giving it like:”that’s thirty, that’s thirty, that’s thirty”
    • maybe the very first time you tamp you can do that, just to feel what thirty pounds of pressure feels like, but beyond that getting so specific about thirty pounds it’s not worth it.
    • weigh your coffee, buy good beans, use good water, use good equipment that’s going to get you 95% of the way there, the small tamping at specific pounds of pressure is pretty much meaningless in the greater scheme of things.
